The owner of B&B “cycle-walkabout”

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sophia Tekstra and I live in a small village on the outskirts of Beilen with my husband Wim,

My Dutch father and Belgian mother found each other in Australia where they married and had six children. When I finished high school in Australia I decided to visit the countries where my parents came from.

The plan was to go to the Netherlands, find a job and spend a year experiencing the Dutch way of life. That year turned into many more years and, as time has passed, I have learnt to appreciate the Dutch lifestyle.

I still feel Australian, even though I have lived in the Netherlands longer. At the same time, I regard myself as Dutch, because of my heritage and because I feel comfortable living in this country.

What I love most about The Netherlands is that you can go everywhere by bicycle. Because it is so compact and flat, you can see the entire country traveling this way. It is also the nicest way to travel.

Just like my parents, many Dutch have emigrated over the years. Besides Australia, they ended up in New Zealand, Canada, America, Africa and many other countries around the world. If you belong to this group and have the possibility to come back to the country of your youth or ancestors, I would love to help you rediscover this great country.

You are very welcome at B&B “cycle-walkabout”.
